Forest Resources Group

Bottomland Hardwood Forest, NE Texas by Keith McKnight

Forest resources figure prominently in bird habitat priorities across the LMVJV.  The Forest Resources Group functions to advance the knowledge, disseminate that knowledge, and facilitate delivery of key forest resource conservation actions.  This group is composed of two Working Groups chartered by the Management Board:

Forest Resources Conservation Working Group (FRCWG) was chartered in 2005 to serve as the technical forum for coordination among Joint Venture partners on reforestation and forest management.   The most tangible and lasting product of the FRCWG’s efforts are Desired Forest Conditions for Wildlife for Forested Wetlands (DFCW) philosophy and document.  The FRCWG continues to provide leadership refining and promoting this philosophy.

Forest Hydrology Working Group (FHWG) was chartered in 2023 to serve as the technical forum for coordination among Joint Venture partners on the science and management of surface and subsurface hydrological processes that impact forest health and conservation.

Whereas these Working Groups are each empowered to address specific and unique science, information, and delivery issues, their common purpose of supporting practical, science-based forest management and conservation is combined in the Forest Resources Group.
